From the year 2003 the project LA RIBERA EN BIODIESEL is in progress consisting of the collection of used vegetable oils and its transformation into biodiesel (ecological fuel and renewable substitute of the diesel derived from the oil).
The aim of LA RIBERA EN BIODIESEL is to reduce the enormous energetic external dependence (more than 80 % of the primary energy that we consume comes from the exterior) and to avoid the spillage of this oil in the sewer that provokes a serious pollution of the waters (increasing the expenses of purification).
The Project has developed in three phases:
First phase: the restaurants and companies oil was collected and agreements were signed with biodiesel suppliers in La Ribera. Our County was the first on in Valencian Community in having one biodiesel pump. Town halls that require can have their own biodiesel pump for their municipal vehicles.
Second phase: the domestic used cooking oil was started to collect, placing containers of small volum in places control by the town hall (participate a few municipalities).
Third phase: Extension of the service of domestic used cooking oil collection through the implementation of a new integrated system of collection that includes:
Free Supply of containers both in streets (methal, aprox. 1000 l) and municipal installations (plastic, aprox. 250 l) of orange color and labelled.
Free Supply of funnels (in all kinds of plastic bottles) for the users
