Bicycle routes in la Ribera

The Energy Agency has done a study to create alternative routes to communicate with the councils of la Ribera in an ecological way of transport as the bicycle is. Roads have been analyzed, avoiding the conventional roads. Those routes have been mapped in order to find the safest and most direct routes joining the towns. This is the first study of its characteristics done in the region, constituting a pilot experience to increase the awareness of people in order to change the habits of transport in a more sustainable way.

10 maps have been made using GIS techniques, covering all areas of la Ribera. The scale is 1:30.000 and 1:35.000 depending on the area. Each map contains different paths connecting the municipalities in each zone. For the study, rural roads have been analyzed, and orthophotos in order to view and modify any change in these. All the maps have been provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

The purpose of the bicycle routes is to communicate municipalities using alternative modes of transport to the car, such as bicycles or other less polluting means of transport. The longest path is less than 14 km.
